How Our Subsystem Works
Our subsystem, the Neon Nebula, is median in nature. We're all Neon, but how separate we are from one another varies. We don't refer to each other as headmates since we often are not separate, and prefer the term forms, since we're all 'forms' of Neon, although Neon isn't just one person.Most times, it's a question of what form I'm in, but sometimes, we're fully separate in headspace and talk and interact with one another, and occasionally co-front! Because of that and just because it feels right, sometimes we refer to ourselves with we or us, and sometimes I refer to myself as a singular entity, although I'm not.In headspace, our subsystem has a separate layer that nobody except us has accessed thus far. We have a shared body in the main headspace that changes depending on who fronts, and this other layer acts like another headspace that we access similar to how our entire system accesses headspace standardly. It's nothing complex, just an empty football field sized foggy area where we're sometimes visible to eachother.We have individual identities, traits, likes and dislikes, but such things vary in intensity of how much we experience and/or present them, and we assume that we seem fairly similar from the outside observer.
Collective Traits
Collectively we share many things, like the name Neon! Specific situations can cause fluctuations like with most things about us, but collectively we identify with the labels Genderfluid, Gender Hoarder, Pansexual, Demiromantic, and Polyamorous.
Some forms have specific partners they're particularly fond of, usually because of shared past lives, but we all collectively cherish our partners. ❤︎
Other labels fluctuate in how much we identify with them at any time, but there sure are a lot of them! That's part of why we like the term Gender Hoarder, because we sure do love our hoard of terms, like a dragon with its beloved hoard of riches. (Our entire system, not just subsystem, has loved dragons for a long time...)We all struggle with selective mutism at varying times, although some forms are more prone to it than others.We sometimes age slide, and though that typically means a few specific forms will front, it's not a hard rule.Alongside the labels mentioned before, we view ourselves collectively as a shapeshifter. When I was just one person that was still true and I changed my form often for fun or comfort in headspace. That still happens, although less, and our shapeshifting nature simply feels right for our subsystem.Our shared love for stars led us to choosing our subsystem's name. There are quite a lot of us, and as far as we know there will continue to be more and more of us. We often identify with stars, and often many stars form within nebulas, thus we are the Neon Nebula, where many Neons form.
